Model airfields 11
Boat waters 3
Status October 2026
In short
In Czechia we have checked 9 RC tracks, 11 model airfields and 3 waters for model boats one by one on the clubs‘ own websites. A guest day ticket costs CZK 80 to 300 at the clubs that state a price. EU rules apply to drones and model aircraft, but in Czechia you must be at least 16 years old to be a remote pilot. Liability insurance with cover of at least CZK 1,000,000 is compulsory from subcategory A2 upwards and in A3 above 4 kg.
Many Czech RC car clubs race under the rules of the RC Autoklub ČR (RCAČR), for example the rounds of the Czech championship (MČR) for electric buggies or Large Scale. Model flying and model boating are organised in the Svaz modelářů ČR (SMČR), a federation with around 400 clubs and its own sections for model aircraft and model boats. Model flying clubs can apply to the Czech Civil Aviation Authority (ÚCL) for an authorisation under Article 16; as of February 2026, ten clubs held such an authorisation.

What are the rules in Czechia?
These associations are responsible in Czechia:
- Svaz modelářů České republiky (SMČR) – section Klub leteckých modelářů ČR: SMČR is a registered association of model clubs covering the whole Czech Republic – according to its website about 400 clubs with 6,680 members including young people; model flying operates largely independently within it as Klub leteckých modelářů ČR, and for aircraft and rocket models SMČR is a member of CIAM FAI. The federation provides its members with liability insurance for damage that may occur during competitions and training.
- Svaz modelářů České republiky (SMČR) – section Klub lodních modelářů ČR: Within SMČR, the nationwide association of model clubs (according to its website about 400 clubs and 6,680 members), ship modelling operates largely independently as Klub lodních modelářů ČR; internationally, SMČR is a member of NAVIGA and IMBRA for this discipline. The federation provides its members with liability insurance for damage that may occur during competitions and training.
The key points from the law and official pages (retrieved 10/10/2026):
- The competent authority for drones and model aircraft is the Civil Aviation Authority of the Czech Republic (Úřad pro civilní letectví, ÚCL). Operators register online on the ÚCL miniweb dron.caa.gov.cz – in the open category this is required from a maximum take-off mass of 250 g (or an impact energy above 80 J) and also below that if the aircraft carries a sensor able to capture personal data (toys excepted), and in the specific category at any mass; the registration number, sent by email, must be displayed on every unmanned aircraft operated (Úřad pro civilní letectví – Provozovatel bezpilotního systému).
- Registering as an operator and as a remote pilot and taking the online theory test on the ÚCL miniweb are free of charge – according to ÚCL, no administrative or other fees apply (Úřad pro civilní letectví – Základní informace k miniwebu ÚCL pro bezpilotní systémy).
- For subcategories A1 and A3 – and as one of the requirements for A2 – remote pilots also register on the miniweb and take an online test: 40 questions with four answer options each, 60 minutes, pass mark 75 %. A failed test may be retaken; after a second failed attempt the pilot has to register again. Proof of completing the online training is sent by email (Úřad pro civilní letectví – Registrace pilota bezpilotního systému).
- In the Czech Republic remote pilots must be at least 16 years old. An exception is only possible within a model aircraft club or association whose ÚCL operating authorisation provides for a lower minimum age (Úřad pro civilní letectví – FAQ – často kladené dotazy).
- In the open category, the unmanned aircraft must be kept within 120 m of the closest point of the surface of the earth during flight; the only exception is when overflying an obstacle (Article 4(1)(e) of Regulation (EU) 2019/947) (EUR-Lex – Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/947, Article 4).
- In the Czech Republic, operators in subcategory A2, in A3 with a maximum take-off mass above 4 kg, and in the specific category must hold liability insurance for the entire period of operation, with minimum cover of CZK 1,000,000 per insured event in A2 and A3. For model aircraft associations under Section 54n of the Civil Aviation Act and their members, this obligation does not apply up to and including 20 kg; above that, insurance is governed by EU law (Section 54d of Act No. 49/1997 Coll., Section 16n of Decree No. 108/1997 Coll.) (Úřad pro civilní letectví – Hlavní předpisy upravující problematiku pojištění odpovědnosti provozu za škody z provozu bezpilotního systému).
- Operators register only in the EU member state where they live and may not be registered in more than one member state at a time; according to ÚCL, training for the open category completed in one EASA member state is recognised in all the others. Residents of non-EU countries register with the aviation authority of the first EU country where they intend to fly – that registration is then valid throughout Europe, but training or qualifications from their home country are not recognised (Úřad pro civilní letectví – FAQ – často kladené dotazy).
- In the Czech Republic, geographical UAS zones apply to all categories of operation; ÚCL establishes each zone by a general measure (opatření obecné povahy) – restricted areas (including around aerodromes and over national parks and protected areas) and prohibited areas, for which requests to fly are generally handled by ÚCL. For pre-flight planning, the DroneMap of the air navigation service provider ŘLP ČR (dronemap.gov.cz) shows the rules that apply at your location (Úřad pro civilní letectví – Přehled zeměpisných zón pro bezpilotní systémy).
- Club flying is governed by Article 16 of Regulation (EU) 2019/947 and, in more detail, by Sections 54n et seq. of the Czech Civil Aviation Act: ÚCL grants clubs and associations (legal entities) an operating authorisation of unlimited duration where their operations depart from the open category – for example flights above 120 m, pilots under 16, or competitions and air displays, including with foreign participation. Members of a club holding such an authorisation fly under its rules; until it is granted, a club may operate only in the open category or under an individual authorisation under Article 12 (Úřad pro civilní letectví – Oprávnění k provozu v rámci klubů a sdružení leteckých modelářů).
- ÚCL publishes an overview of the clubs holding such an authorisation under Section 54o(9) of the Civil Aviation Act – as of 2 February 2026 ten clubs, including Letečtí modeláři Nučice, Modelářské letiště Jiřice, Modelklub Lipence, RC Club DSA and Valašský letecký klub. For each club the list gives the reference point and radius of the flying area, the number of operational scenarios and the maximum operating height (Úřad pro civilní letectví – Přehled vydaných oprávnění k provozu v rámci klubů a sdružení leteckých modelářů).

Missing an entry?
For Prague and the South Bohemian, Plzeň, Karlovy Vary, Ústí nad Labem, Liberec and Zlín Regions we have not yet found an RC track with current evidence on its own club website, and for the South Bohemian, Karlovy Vary, South Moravian and Olomouc Regions no model airfield yet; for waters, the list is still short with three clubs. Many Czech club websites could not be accessed. Do you know an active club that is missing here? Write to us via the contact page (in German) – we check the tip on the club’s website and add it to the list.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I find an RC track in Czechia?
This page lists 9 verified tracks in 7 regions, with surface, classes and guest driver rules. Many clubs race under the rules of the RC Autoklub ČR (RCAČR); at some tracks you can practise as a guest for a day fee.
Can I fly at a Czech club field as a model pilot from abroad?
Each club sets this in its field rules. Usually you can only fly by arrangement, often accompanied by a member and with proof of your registration and liability insurance; some fields charge a day fee, for example CZK 100 or 150. We have not found any official rule for guest pilots from abroad.
Do I need to register again in Czechia?
No. As an operator you only register in the EU country where you live. The aviation authority ÚCL recognises training for the open category completed in an EASA member state.
How high can I fly in Czechia?
In the open category no higher than 120 m above ground. Clubs holding an Article 16 authorisation from the ÚCL can also be granted approval for flights above 120 m; at their fields the height set in the authorisation then applies.
Is insurance compulsory in Czechia?
Yes, in subcategory A2, in A3 above 4 kg and in the specific category, with cover of at least CZK 1,000,000 per claim. The requirement does not apply up to 20 kg to clubs holding an authorisation from the ÚCL and their members; many fields still ask guests for proof of insurance.
