In short

In Slovakia we have checked 5 RC tracks, 5 model airfields and 2 waters for model boats one by one on the clubs‘ own websites. EU rules apply to drones and model aircraft; if you are already registered in your country of residence, you do not need to register additionally in Slovakia. Liability insurance is compulsory in subcategories A2 and A3, which also applies to models over 250 g without a class label.

In Slovakia, model flying is overseen by the Letecké a raketové modelárstvo division of the Slovenský národný aeroklub (SNA); several clubs on our list are members of the model flying federation LERMAS. For RC cars, the HUDY Racing Arena in Trenčín is a large racing centre that hosted an EFRA European Championship in 2025, and the Slovak Championship in electric off-road races in Komárno and Nemšová, among other places. Among model boats, clubs around Bratislava and Galanta are active.

What are the rules in Slovakia?

These associations are responsible in Slovakia:

The key points from the law and official pages (retrieved 11/10/2026):

  • The competent authority for drones and model aircraft is the Transport Authority (Dopravný úrad), Civil Aviation Division (letectvo.nsat.sk). Operators must register with it in the open category from a maximum take-off mass of 250 g (or if the aircraft can transfer more than 80 J of kinetic energy to a person on impact) and also below that if it carries a sensor able to capture personal data (toys excepted); in the specific category at any mass (Transport Authority (Civil Aviation) – Registration of UAS Operators).
  • A paper application – by post or in person at the Transport Authority’s filing office – costs an administrative fee of 35 EUR; online, you apply via the central government portal slovensko.sk with a qualified electronic signature, need no fee stamp (kolok) and receive an automatically generated payment order at the end. You register only once (listing the serial numbers of your drones); changes cost 10 EUR, or 5 EUR if filed electronically, and new registrations are valid indefinitely (Dopravný úrad (Civilné letectvo) – Registrácia prevádzkovateľov UAS).
  • You can register as an operator as a company or as a private individual aged 18 or over; underage pilots fly under the registration number of a person aged 18 or over who is responsible for the operation. Display your registration number, without the secret digits, visibly on every drone; the decision and the number are sent to you by email (Dopravný úrad (Civilné letectvo) – Registrácia prevádzkovateľov UAS).
  • Remote pilots in the open and specific categories must be at least 16 years old. No minimum age applies in subcategory A1 with a class C0 toy, for privately built aircraft under 250 g maximum take-off mass, or when flying under the direct supervision of a remote pilot (Transport Authority (Civil Aviation) – Remote pilot competency).
  • For A1 and A3 you apply to the Transport Authority – on paper or via slovensko.sk with a qualified electronic signature – for the online course and test: 40 questions, pass mark 75 %, three attempts of 60 minutes each; the link and login details are sent by email. The certificate comes as a PDF and by post; if you fail, you submit a new application – the authority’s fee schedule lists 30 EUR for the remote pilot theoretical knowledge exam (Dopravný úrad (Civilné letectvo) – Online výcvikový kurz A1/A3).
  • For the A2 certificate you need the A1/A3 proof, self-practical training under A3 conditions (confirmed by your own declaration) and an additional exam of 30 questions with a pass mark of 75 % – taken in person at the Transport Authority’s premises in Bratislava on one of the published dates. If you passed A1/A3 somewhere other than the Transport Authority, attach your proof to the application (Transport Authority (Civil Aviation) – Subcategory A2).
  • In the open category, your aircraft must not get more than 120 m from the closest point of the surface of the earth during flight; the only exception is when overflying an obstacle (Article 4(1)(e) of Regulation (EU) 2019/947) (EUR-Lex – Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/947, Article 4).
  • You need liability insurance in subcategories A2 and A3 and in the specific and certified categories (Section 45(c) of Act No. 143/1998 on civil aviation) – so also for drones over 250 g without a C class label, which fall under A3. The cover must be at least the amount Regulation (EC) No 785/2004 sets for aircraft with a maximum take-off mass below 500 kg and must be valid for the entire period of operation; in the open category, one policy can cover all your UAS up to 20 kg (Dopravný úrad (Civilné letectvo) – Poistenie).
  • Model aircraft clubs and associations can apply to the Transport Authority for an operating authorisation under Article 16 of Regulation (EU) 2019/947 (fee according to the fee schedule: 200 EUR), which sets conditions for all members and may differ from the open category – e.g. for models over 25 kg or flights above 120 m; it is valid only in Slovakia and does not exempt members from operator registration. Outside such a framework, privately built models under 25 kg are flown in subcategory A3 – after registration and passing the A1/A3 exam (Dopravný úrad (Civilné letectvo) – Letecké modelárstvo).
  • Operators register only in the member state where they live or where their company has its registered office, and never in more than one at a time – so if you are registered in Germany, for example, a second registration in Slovakia is ruled out. If you live outside the EU, you register with the competent authority of the first member state where you intend to fly (Transport Authority (Civil Aviation) – Registration of UAS Operators).
  • Before every flight you must check the currently valid UAS geographical zones – the Transport Authority provides them as a KML file (as of 01.10.2026, e.g. for Google Earth) – and the airspace use on the map of the air navigation service provider LPS SR (gis.lps.sk). In restricted airspace the rules of the Ministry of Defence (MOSR) apply, and in areas with the third or a higher level of nature protection you need the consent of the nature protection authority (Act No. 543/2002) (Dopravný úrad (Civilné letectvo) – Predletová príprava UAS).
  • In the control zones (CTR) Štefánik (Bratislava), Košice, Žilina, Piešťany and Tatry (Poprad), you may fly without permission only more than 5 km from the aerodrome and no higher than 30 m, or within ‘atypical airspace’ – more than 5 km from the aerodrome, up to the height of a building and only in its immediate vicinity. Otherwise, operations in the CTR geographical zones require an operational authorisation in the specific category; these rules have applied since 31.03.2026 (Dopravný úrad (Civilné letectvo) – Riadené okrsky CTR).

Missing an entry?

Our list for Slovakia is still incomplete: in the Žilina, Banská Bystrica, Prešov and Košice regions we have not yet found an RC track, in Trenčín, Nitra, Žilina and Prešov a model flying field, and so far we only list waters in the Bratislava and Trnava regions. Many Slovak clubs only publish information on Facebook, and several club websites blocked access. Do you know an active club that is missing here? Write to us via the contact page (in German) – we check the tip on the club’s website and add it to the list.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find an RC track in Slovakia?

This page lists 5 verified tracks in 4 regions – from the Mini-Z hall in Bratislava and the asphalt track in Trnava to the off-road tracks in Nemšová and Komárno. According to the track’s website, Trnava offers season and single tickets; at the club in Komárno you register at least 2 days in advance.

Can I fly at a Slovak club field as a model pilot from abroad?

In some cases, yes. In Častá you buy a visitor card for €10 a day, in cash at the petrol station in the village; in Rozhanovce near Košice, visitor cards are available from the board for €20 a day. In Lučenec, guests fly free of charge twice a year at the invitation of a member, in Trnava only in exceptional cases together with a member.

Do I need to register again in Slovakia?

No. You only register in the EU state where you live, and never in several at the same time. You attach your registration number clearly visible to every model.

How high can I fly in Slovakia?

In the open category no higher than 120 m above the closest point of the earth’s surface. In the control zones of airports such as Bratislava and Košice, without permission you may only fly more than 5 km away from the airport and no higher than 30 m. The transport authority Dopravný úrad provides the geographical zones as a KML file, and the map of the air navigation service provider LPS SR shows the airspace.

Do I need insurance in Slovakia?

Yes, in subcategories A2 and A3 and in the specific category, the Slovak aviation act requires liability insurance – this also applies to models over 250 g without a class label. The cover must at least meet Regulation (EC) No 785/2004 for aircraft under 500 kg.
