In short
In Luxembourg we have checked 2 RC tracks, 1 model airfield and 1 water for model boats one by one on the clubs‘ own websites. A guest day ticket costs €5 at the clubs that state a price. Drones and model aircraft are subject to the EU rules and, since the end of 2025, a national law: liability insurance is compulsory, and anyone living in Luxembourg registers with the DAC for €10 a year.
Luxembourg is small, and so is its scene: model flying is organised by the FAL, the country’s air sports federation, with model flying fields in Feulen, Berdorf, Olm, Dudelange and Lintgen, among others. The RC car federation is the FLAMRC. Since the end of 2025, a national drone law and a Grand-Ducal regulation have applied alongside the EU rules – with compulsory insurance and penalties for breaches.

What are the rules in Luxembourg?
These associations are responsible in Luxembourg:
- FLAMRC – Fédération Luxembourgeoise d’AutoModélisme Radio-Commandé: FLAMRC (Fédération Luxembourgeoise d’AutoModélisme Radio-Commandé) is Luxembourg’s member federation in EFRA, the European RC car federation.
- FAL – Fédération Aéronautique Luxembourgeoise: The FAL is Luxembourg’s air sports federation and a member of the FAI. It brings together all of the country’s air sports branches, including model flying (aéromodélisme), with around 30 affiliated clubs. Its activity map lists model flying fields in Feulen, Berdorf, Olm, Dudelange and Lintgen, among others, plus indoor flying in Mersch in winter.
The key points from the law and official pages (retrieved 10/10/2026):
- In Luxembourg, the competent authority for drones and model aircraft is the Directorate of Civil Aviation (DAC). Alongside the EU drone rules, a national law of 19 December 2025 and a Grand-Ducal regulation of 22 December 2025 on unmanned aircraft have applied since the end of 2025. Among other things, they provide for criminal penalties for breaches (DAC – New National Regulatory Framework for Drone Use).
- If you live in Luxembourg and operate a UAS of 250 g or more, or a lighter one with a camera or sensor, you must register as an operator with the DAC. Registration is done online via MyGuichet.lu, costs €10, is valid for one year and is renewed annually; toys under 250 g are exempt. From age 16 you register yourself, while 14- and 15-year-olds are registered by a parent or guardian. Your operator number must be displayed on every UAS (Guichet.lu – Registering as a UAS operator).
- Model flyers also pay €10 a year for operator registration. The FAL says so after consulting the DAC (FAL – Redevances pour pilotes UAS (modélistes)).
- Registration is only possible in your country of residence and is valid in all EASA member states, so a registration from Germany, for example, is also valid in Luxembourg. You may not register a second time in Luxembourg, as no operator may be registered in two EASA states at the same time (DAC – Where and When Do I Register?).
- For UAS from 250 g to 25 kg without a C class mark, the online OPEN A1/A3 theory exam is mandatory. It is free via the Eurocontrol LearningZone and also available in German; A2 additionally requires an on-site exam at the DAC (€45). Certificates are valid for 5 years in all EASA member states; since 1 January 2024 only certificates in the European format are accepted (DAC – Where and How Do I Train?).
- The 120 m height limit is measured vertically from the ground directly below the aircraft, not from where you are standing. Over sloping terrain you therefore have to keep adjusting your height; if in doubt, fly lower (DAC – Frequently Asked Questions (drones)).
- Model aircraft clubs and associations can apply to the DAC for an authorisation under Art. 16 of Regulation (EU) 2019/947. It allows deviations from the open category on pilot age, model weight and flight height, but only on the club’s site and within its operations; some clubs already hold one, and the FAL provides information. Without a club authorisation you fly under the rules of subcategory A3, i.e. among other things below 25 kg and below 120 m (DAC – Model Clubs).
- According to DAC Air Safety Bulletin ASB 2025/01, the EU drone rules including the 120 m limit generally also apply to model aircraft clubs. In addition to five existing clubs, the site in Lintgen has received a DAC authorisation with a vertical limit of 1,000 ft (about 305 m) above ground. The superseded bulletin ASB 2023/01 gave the same limit for the fields at Bech, Berdorf, Dudelange, Feulen and Olm (DAC – Air Safety Bulletin ASB 2025/01 „Aeromodelism fields in Luxembourg“).
- Operators of unmanned aircraft (drones and model aircraft alike) need liability insurance. Below 20 kg maximum take-off mass it must cover at least 750,000 Special Drawing Rights (IMF); from 20 kg, the insurance obligation under Art. 19quater of the Law of 19 May 1999 applies. Flying uninsured can mean 8 days to 1 year in prison and/or a fine of €251 to €5,000, and you already need your liability insurance number to register (Chambre des Députés – Projet de loi n° 7790, texte voté le 3 décembre 2025).
- Only the UAS zones shown on g-o.lu/uas (Geoportail) are legally binding. Manufacturers‘ geozones do not necessarily cover all restricted areas, and you must check the access conditions before every flight. There are prohibited zones (e.g. football stadiums, the Useldange and Noertrange airfields), zones requiring authorisation (e.g. Findel airport, the Grand-Ducal Palace) and zones requiring prior notification (e.g. heliports, Findel) (DAC – UAS Geographical Zones).
- Under 16 you may fly if you have completed the EU OPEN A1/A3 training and use a drone registered to an operator who has explicitly agreed. In addition, a qualified person over 16 must supervise you, and your legal guardian must have taken out insurance (DAC – Frequently Asked Questions (drones)).
- Remote pilot certificates from countries outside EASA are currently not recognised in Luxembourg, as there is no mutual recognition. If you live outside the EASA states, ask the DAC by email about registering in Luxembourg (uas@av.etat.lu) (DAC – Frequently Asked Questions (drones)).

Missing an entry?
The model flying fields in Berdorf, Feulen, Lintgen and Olm are on the FAL map; however, we could not access the clubs‘ websites or they did not give any date from 2025 or 2026, so they are missing from the list. For most cantons we have also not yet found an RC track or a club boating water. Do you know an active club that is missing here? Write to us via the contact page (in German) – we check the tip on the club’s website and add it to the list.
